The Joint Commission denied the UNC hospitals accreditation during routine reviews of hospitals upon identifying areas that the hospitals did not pass (Goforth, 2019). The hospitals did not meet the set requirements for suicide prevention standards set by the Joint Commission, increasing the risk of suicide attempts among mental health patients being attended in these healthcare facilities (Goforth, 2019).
